Marian University Chapter of College Mentors for Kids

Grace Morrison
"I joined College Mentors because it fit perfectly with my major (Elementary Education), and I wanted to be around kids as much as possible. I wanted the chance to be a mentor for someone who didn't have the same resources as me growing up and to instill in him or her the determination to pursue his or her education. I have stuck with the program for the past 3 years because I have realized that this program makes such a positive impact on children, and I want to be a part of that impact. Moving into a leadership position has helped me see how much work goes into running a such a wonderful program, and I appreciate all the values for which College Mentors for Kids stands."

"I joined College Mentors for Kids so that I could make a diffrence in a child's life. I wanted to be a positive influence for those who are in need of a role model. I chose an administrative position within the pgoram because I wanted to influence more than one child. I loved the relationship with my buddies last year, but I wanted to build that kind of relationship with more kids. This year, I get the opportunity to positively affect ten little buddies, and I couldn't be more excited."

"When I heard of College Mentors for Kids here at Marian, I was excited to see how the program worked and what kind of activities it entailed. I joined College Mentors for Kids because one, it fit really well with my major being a psychology major and wanting to work with children and two, I absolutely love working with children. The kids bring so much laughter and excitement to the program that I am so happy to be apart of. I love how the program makes such a huge impact on these student's lives and how much the mentors make an impression on them. Moving to the General Manager position has shown me how much this program means to me and how much work goes into a great chapter."

"Initially, I joined College Mentors because I needed service hours. I have always enjoyed working with kids, and I knew this would be service that wasn't too difficult.
My outlook on the program has changed tremendously since I joined. It never was a chore. Once I was assigned a buddy, I loved coming to the activities, and it was honestly one of the highlights of my week. A couple times, my buddy didn't make it to the activity, and each time I was a little heartbroken that I couldn't hang out with her. By the end of the year, we really had a great relationship, and I could tell I had been making an impact on her life, just as she had been making one on mine.
I joined the staff this year because I absolutely loved the program, and I wanted to continue to have an impact on even more buddies. My buddy family has been awesome, and I can't wait to continue having awesome activities throughout the year!"

"I decided to become involved with college mentors because at first I heard some friends talk about it. I sounded like somethings new and different to try out. After going to the meeting I realized quickly how much we would be impacting the lives of the next generation, especially to kids that may not have the opportunities I had growing up. This is what made me truly appreciate this program and fall in love with it. Soon came actually getting to know my buddy, this bond is so inspirational. Helping people is something I want to do for the rest of my life, so if I can help this next generation of kids they can hopefully continue to do the same."
